Information Technology Development

Different sectors of Information Technology have experienced tremendous growth over the past few years. From banks, money transfers and mail services, Information Technology Development has transformed these services to whole new levels. Actually quite few sectors of today’s economies have been spared by the impact of Information Technology Development. Technology products like mobile phones were a preserve of the few mighty in the early 2000, but today; mobile phones are used by almost everyone.

Technology in Africa has also been greatly affected by these developments in the information sector. Past are the days when the only available phones were landlines. Landlines have over the past years declined due to mass adoption of mobile phones by consumers. And similarly the number of fixed wireless lines commonly known as CDMA continue to record a steady decline, instead consumers now prefers GPS cell phones.

Information Technology development has seen a steady decline in the use of the traditional ordinary mail services. Faster and reliable mail systems have replaced the traditional mail services, these includes the electronic mail commonly called E Mail and other faster systems like text messages. With rapid growth of mobile phone social mail, it is anticipated that the traditional mail also known as snail mail will continue to decline in its usage giving way to more modern platforms that are reliable and faster.

Loop operators are no exception to the vast impact brought by information technology development. Most of the LLOs (loop operator) companies licensed to provide telecommunication solutions that includes both voice and data continue to experience difficulty in growing their businesses. With the availability of internet on handsets, satellite subscriptions continue to diminish and cyber cafes are now going out of business not forgetting that the once seen as a lucrative business, starting a cyber cafe is no longer promising as before.

An increase in the use of cell phones has been boosted by innovative handsets, easy tariff plans by mobile service providers coupled with cheap mobile phone deals. Today, mobile phones are used to carry out various transactions that were never anticipated before. These days mobile phones can be used on various occasions that includes; payment of goods, money transfer and toping up credit. Employers can now use mobile phones to pay employees salaries. In Kenya, information technology development has seen the integration of mobile phones into the banking sector.
